Coach Dan Hibson
Dan Hibson is the founder of Mini sports Stars and has 20 years’ experience coaching kids 3-18 years of age. Dan started coaching basketball at IHM School in Belmont Ca at 15 years old and has continued coaching basketball, baseball, and other sports for the past 20 years. Some of the teams Dan Hibson has coached:
- Hillsdale High School Girls Varsity Basketball (4 years)
- San Mateo National Little League Cardinals
- Hillsdale High School Boys Varsity (assistant)
- St. Raymond’s 8th Grade Boys Basketball
- Belmont Pony All-Stars
- AAU “Hustlers” Boys basketball
Throughout his coaching experience Dan noticed that the most important thing a coach can instill in children and adolescents is a positive experience that will help children and adolescents develop into outstanding individuals. Competition is important in our society but the development of physical, social, and intellectual skills are far more important than a win or a loss
All Mini Sports Stars coaches are trained to abide by the Mini Sports Stars mantra: “To enhance the Character of Our Youth through Sports in a Positive Atmosphere.” Coaches are specifically trained to be:
- Positive & friendly
- Knowledgeable about the sport they are coaching
Mini Sports Stars classes almost always have a 6:1 coach to athlete ratio in order to make sure that each child is receiving the proper amount of attention and instruction. Skill mastery through repetition is a priority if Mini Sports Stars classes as studies indicate that both children and adults alike learn in “chunks of 3.” For more information about specific drills to enhance skill mastery through repetition please visit the tee-ball and basketball pages.

Coach Jolly Mateo
Sports play a very significant role in my life and have loved it since I was very young. I have a passion for sports and love playing them, especially basketball. I started playing basketball since I could walk and have been playing in different leagues since the 3rd grade. Today, I play basketball recreationally. I also love being involved in football, baseball, hockey, soccer, and even volleyball.
I am a huge Bay Area sports fan and enjoy going to hundreds of sporting events. The San Francisco Giants, San Francisco 49ers, Golden State Warriors, and the San Jose Sharks are among my favorite teams in all of sports
Overall, I am an optimistic person who enjoy coaching those younger than me. I find it valuable for kids to be involved in sports because it keeps them active and are a perfect way to teach them teamwork, patience, and commitment. I am happy when I coach because it gives me the chance to educate children become a positive role model for them.
I am currently enrolled at San Diego State University, studying Hospitality & Tourism Management with an emphasis in Meetings & Events. In the future, I hope to be working for a Bay Area sports organization in their special events program.
